央视大楼 (Yāngshì Dàlóu) is the headquarters of China Central Television (known as CCTV) and one of Beĭjīng’s most famous landmarks.
Built in 2007, the glass giant is located in Beĭjīng’s central business district in the Eastern part of the city. The unusual construction was designed by internationally acclaimed architect Rem Koolhass - a difficult job, both because of the ingenious shape, and because it had to be earthquake-resistant!
The building is widely known as “the big pants” (大裤衩, dàkùchă) – with some speculation as to whether the similarity was intended.
The 768 ft (234 m) colossus has been highly praised for its creative and structural uniqueness, including being named an architectural “marvel” by Time Magazine.
The building caught fire because of fireworks in 2009, but now looms majestically again.
Probably the most impressive pants in the world. Fang.com
