非诚勿扰 (Feīchéngwùrăo), “If You Are the One”, is a tv dating show.
The premise is simple: A hopeful bachelor arrives in the studio to find the love of his life. 24 women judge his every move, and can at anytime turn off their light if they don’t like what they see. A snide panel gives dating advice. What could go wrong?
If, at the end of the merciless questioning, any lights are left on, the relieved suitor gets a date with one of the remaining women – but that’s a big “if”.
The show explores people’s desires and preferences. One particularly debated episode had an unemployed suitor ask a woman if she would ride a bike with him (kinda romantic, no?) to which she flatly replied “I’d rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bike”.
The episode sparked an uproarious online debate about snobbishness. Gold entertainment.
