感动中国 (Găndòng Zhōngguó), “Touching China”, is a tear-inducing TV show. Each year in February, they select 10 individuals plus one “team” who have accomplished great work to “move” China - also emotionally - in the past year.
One example is Bái Fānglĭ, a 93-year-old rickshaw driver who, during the course of his career, donated 350,000 yuan so 300 poor students to go to school.
For teams, “Touching China” has featured the national female volleyball team, which won gold in the 2016 Olympic Games, the Chinese medical team that went to Africa to help fight Ebola, and a special investigation team that solved a particularly nasty drug cartel case in the Mekong delta.
Famous past winners include Yáo Míng, Zhāng Yìmóu, and Jackie Chan.
