范冰冰 (Fàn Bīngbīng) is perhaps China’s most successful actress. Like most other Chinese actors, she’s little known outside China, although she did play teleporting mutant Blink in Hollywood’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. In China, she’s a whole other level of superstar, having starred in blockbusters like “My Fair Princess”, “Cell Phone” and “I Am Not Madame Bovary”, none of which you have probably heard about. But seriously, there’s even a Barbie version of her, and her face has been on all of the top fashion magazines. A confident lady, Fàn Bīngbīng’s popular nickname is Fàn Yè - a deferential honorific that means something like “Granddaddy Fàn”. When asked on TV whether she was looking to marry somebody powerful, her response was “I don’t need to. I’M powerful”. She's certainly made a splash. Baidu Baike
